This post is for my fellow work-from-home folks. If you work from home, then chances are you need insight on the home office essentials to get your work done
Here’s a list of 10 Home Office Essentials every home office should have for a productive and happy workday!
First of all, lighting is KEY in your home office essentials. Whether it’s big windows that let natural light in or a nice lamp or chandelier, lighting is definitely a home office essential. Not only does bright, natural light help wakes you up, but it also keeps you alert and focused throughout the workday.
If your home office doesn’t get much natural lighting, then I recommend investing in some artificial lighting to brighten up your space. You can install a cool chandelier that can totally change the whole vibe of your home office, or you can simply add a floor lamp, table lamp or desk lamp or 3. Whatever it is, good lighting is really important in your home office and is something that should be taken very seriously.
Here are a few beautiful lighting options I selected that are perfect for a home office:
Another home office essential for a beautiful and happy office is to add some fresh paint. You’d be very surprised at how much of an impact fresh paint can make on a room. It can totally make it feel brand new, and it’s not very hard to paint it yourself either.
High-quality paint is about $70 per gallon. If you add some supplies like rollers, paintbrushes, and tape, you can likely paint the room for around $100. Not too bad for a total facelift that can actually make you feel much better in the room and in turn make you more productive and efficient at work.

Something I see all the time in clients who are looking for help designing their home office is a super cluttered and claustrophobic desk.
“Complexity is the enemy of execution.”
Tony Robbins
The more “stuff” you have on your desk, the harder it will be for you to breathe, think, and perform. There will be so many nicknacks and notes and clutter fighting for your attention, distracting you from your important work.
The best thing I can suggest is to try to tuck everything away in drawers, cabinets, and containers. The less you can see, the better. It’s okay to have easy access to important things you need throughout your day, but I’d be especially particular with which memorabilia and decor you put on your desk.
The more clean and clear your desk is, the better you’ll be able to think and function. Trust me!
Here are some of my favorite beautiful and simple home office desk selections:
If you work from home and are sitting down for several hours at a time, you’ll definitely want to have an ergonomic chair. Now, I know that there are many chairs out there that are really cute and low cost, but investing in a chair that supports your body properly is so dang important.
You’ll want something that is a good height according to your desk, and low lumbar support is key.
Here are a few nice-looking, ergonomic chairs that are perfect for your home office!
Another home office essential is definitely to find a way to infuse your personal style and character into the space. Someone who is a calm, quiet, and earthy individual will have a much different office than a spontaneous, wild, and eclectic person.
Whatever resembles YOU, incorporate it into your space. Whether it’s a certain pattern or print, a specific color palette, a special material, a certain object or photo. Whatever it is, try to make your office YOU. It will bring you so much more joy working in an office that feels like it was made specifically for you, rather than an office that doesn’t.

Let’s be honest, some days are great and others…. not so much. Sometimes you need a little reminder to keep you going and pushing forward. Especially if you work from home. And ESPECIALLY if you work from home AND are your own boss.
Incorporating a motivational quote, saying, image or dream board or collage into your home office is a great way to remind yourself to keep pushing and keep grinding towards your goals.
There’s just something about plants that makes them a home office essential in my opinion. They resemble life and growth. They are humble and pure.
Plants have a way of making a room feel more balanced and cozy as well. If you have a green thumb, putting an air-purifying plant in your home office can be a great way to keep your air clean and fresh.
If you’re someone who isn’t the greatest at keeping plants alive, then putting faux plants in your office will work just fine. Whatever works for you, try putting a plant or a few in your home office and watch how much more cozy and inviting it becomes!
Here are some great faux plant options for home offices!
Have you ever been working and just felt like you needed to take 5 and get a refresh? Sometimes a quick walk, or a fresh glass of ice water can do the trick to help revive you and bring you back to life mid-workday.
For me, lighting a candle really helps as well. And if not that, then using essential oils in an oil diffuser can work great too. Scents like lavender or bergamot can help to calm and relax you. Scents like lemon or peppermint can be used to wake you up and keep you alert during a long meeting.
Whichever works for you, a candle of a diffuser is a really nice thing to have in your home office as it can both soothe and relax you and keep you alert and focused at the same time. Sounds like a win-win to me.
Here are a few great candles and diffusers I recommend for your office!

Whether or not you’re an office supply fanatic like me, having cute office supplies can honestly help make your home office feel so much more exciting to work it. Having a cute calendar or planner, a fun mousepad or stapler. Whatever it is, I recommend looking for some of these everyday tools you use regularly in styles and colors that bring you joy.
I’m not saying you need to spend a fortune on things you use once a year, but if you use certain things daily or regularly, maybe splurge a little to invest in supplies you really love and that make you happy to use them every day.
Every little thing counts when it comes to cultivating the perfect home office, so all of these small details really do add up to make the overall daily work experience much more enjoyable!
Last but not least, one of the most essential tips to your home office is to KEEP IT ORGANIZED. Keeping your space tidy and organized will make you so much more productive, calm, efficient, and focused. Having things filed properly, stored away in drawers and cabinets and everything in it’s right place will end up saving you a ton of sanity and time.
If this is something you struggle with, I highly recommend dedicating one hour per week or 15 minutes per day to your schedule to tidy up your office. If you’re someone who finds yourself piling up paperwork or objects, then use this dedicated time to sort through and shred or file away these items.
You will have a much more enjoyable work week if your home office is tidy and organized and everything is sorted and in its place. There’s something about clutter and messes that just linger in the back of your mind and actually can make your days more stressful and less productive.
Here are some great home office organization supplies you’ll love!
I hope you loved these home office essentials and tips! Investing in your home office is so important, and I truly believe it can help you save time, sanity and be WAY more productive at work. It can be the key to your next promotion or the secret to the overflowing success of your business! It’s an important room in your home to take seriously, and I hope this post helps guide you to create a beautiful and happy home office!
