Fall is right around the corner, which is why I’ve put together the ultimate list of the best places to visit in the fall all around the world!
The best part about traveling during autumn is that most of the crowds have died down. Well, in most places. Some places are so popular during the fall because of their incredible fall foliage that they actually tend to get a bit busier during September, October, and November.
Either way, this list is packed with the top ten best places to visit in the fall regardless of if you’re looking to experience breathtaking views or calm and quiet tranquility.
Average temperatures ranges are in the highs: 60-70°F (15-21°C) and in the lows: 40-50°F (4-10°C).
Autumn is the best time to visit Vermont as the weather is great leading to very comfortable days and cozy autumn nights. They say that the best time to visit for the peak fall foliage is between Sept. 28 and Oct. 5. That’s when the leaves are really bright and colorful, at their prime. So if you’re heading to the Northeast Kingdom or Stowe, try going late September, early October.
However, if you’re heading to southern Vermont, the Lake Champlain Valley, or the Connecticut River Valley, you can try heading over the first or second week of October.
There are countless beautiful cities to visit and national parks to hike in Vermont during the autumn months. The weather is at its prime so you can go for a beautiful fall drive through the forests, or ride your bike along the water to take in the beautiful colors reflecting off the water.
There are also many fall activities for you to do with your family, as well as great lodges and cabins to stay in. However, in my opinion, when it comes to Vermont in the fall, you’ll want to spend way more time outdoors than indoors.

Average temperatures ranges during September, October, November are around 46-57°F (8-14°C).
One of the best parts about traveling to Scotland during the fall is that most of the crowds are gone, and castles and other beautiful sights to see are quite empty and spacious. This also means that hotels are cheaper and restaurants will have better service.
With the crisp beautiful air that the fall season brings, you could get lucky one of the nights to catch a glimpse of the amazing Northern lights. However, in order to see them, the conditions will need to be perfect: crisp, cold air, clear skies, the moon not too bright and no light coming from any of the cities nearby. As I said, if you’re lucky, you’ll see them, but conditions really do need to be perfect.
Keep in mind that during the autumn and winter seasons, the sun rises around 9 am and sets around 4 pm. So you’ll want to plan your days accordingly. At least you’ll get to sleep in!
During the autumn months, Scotland’s weather can be quite unpredictable. It’s best to keep an open, positive mindset as you may get blessed with crisp, clean air and sunshine or you could get stuck with muggy, rainy days.
Either way, you’ll want to bring the appropriate clothing. Waterproof jackets, and boots, hats, gloves, and various layers.

Germany is one of the best places to visit in the fall because it’s mostly calm during the fall season. However, you can expect things to get hectic for Oktoberfest, which actually takes place mostly in September. The festival typically runs for around 16-18 days, from the last week in September through the first week in October.
Bavaria is a great place to visit in the fall, especially because of the good weather and fall foliage. The Bavaria region is located in the southeast part of Germany, including Munich, the German capital. There are countless things to do here such as drink beer and eat sausage, tour the Neuschwanstein Castle, hike the Alps, visit museums, and appreciate architecture.

The Lake District region of England is the northwest part of the country. It’s a very popular destination for tourists and is known for its beautiful lakes, mountains, and historic vibes. It includes a cluster of 16 lakes, with towns bursting with character and charm, such as Kendal, Ambleside, Windermere, and Keswick. The towns near the lakes are home to many quaint inns, local art galleries, and mom-and-pop shops.
It’s a great place to travel during autumn, as the leaves change colors, and the air is crisp and cozy. It’s highly recommended to head here near the end of October when the leaves’ colors are at their prime. It’s also highly suggested to take a boat ride along the lakes to view the foliage, as you can see the picturesque beauty from all angles, reflecting off the water itself. You’ll catch some striking views for sure.

The best time to visit Switzerland in the fall is during September. This is when the weather is the best, and the crowds are much thinner. October can be a bit riskier as the air starts getting more chilly and the first snowfall will begin to occur in the mountains. The days also start getting shorter, especially in the second half of the month. If you don’t mind the shorter days, and the potential of cold and snow, then you should be good to head over anytime between September and October.
Some of the most breathtaking areas in Switzerland to check out are Zurich, Zermatt, Lake Geneva, Interlaken, Lucerne, and St. Moritz. You can also take the Glacier Express, an 8-hour, first-class train ride that will take you from Zermatt to St. Moritz, catching some of the most breathtaking views of the mountains on the way.

October is a great time to visit Bali. You’ll get little rain, low humidity, and lots of sun. This is more of a tropical, fall getaway destination. But it’s great because, during October, you’ll have fewer crowds. After September, peak season dies down quite a bit. Hotel prices will be lower, and you’ll be able to have more breathing room and space wherever you go.

Santorini is another one of the best places to visit in the fall because the weather is at its prime. Definitely not scorching hot like during the summer months. During the fall, crowds are slim, and the fresh air is a real treat. The autumn months are great for exploring, shopping, and roaming around the gorgeous city of Santorini. You can even take a few day-trips around the country since excursion prices will be lower during these months.

Another one of the best places to visit in the fall. Vienna, Austria is home to some of the best coffee shops in the world. Austrians are totally known for coffee, so traveling here during the fall is a great idea for any of my fellow coffee lovers. The thought of traveling to a beautiful, historic, European city during the crisp fall season, and enjoying a cup of coffee at one of the best coffee shops in the world, is really my cup of tea. No pun intended. LOL.
Vienna is said to be perfect fall weather during the autumn months, and the tourists have died down by then, making it a fantastic place to roam and explore freely.
Average temperatures ranges are in the highs: 89-91°F (31-32°C) and in the lows: 79-80°F (26-27°C).
If you’re not about the “crisp” fall weather and are looking to get a tan in October, Aruba is the way to go. It is still very hot there during the autumn months, and since the kids are all back in school and life’s in full swing, Aruba in the fall is pretty chill. Not a ton of tourists, prices are at least a bit more reasonable, and you can totally soak up the sun in peace and quiet.
Keep in mind, most people actually avoid Aruba during September and October because it is just so dang hot. So if that totally doesn’t bother you, you’re in for a real treat because it’ll nice and open and empty!
